Better Than Ezra

Some songs, albums and live performances are simply timeless. Since getting their start playing house parties at Louisiana State University in 1988, Better Than Ezra has carved out an enduring place in modern rock. Founded by Kevin Griffin (lead vocals, guitar and piano) and Tom Drummond (bass and backing vocals), the New Orleans quartet became known for its instantly hummable melodies, indelible guitar riffs and confessional lyrics that continue to resonate across generations.

From the band’s 1995 No. 1 hit “Good” to Taylor Swift’s 2010 cover of the Better Than Ezra classic “Breathless,” its influence remains undeniable. In 2025, Better Than Ezra celebrated the 30th anniversary of its breakthrough album, “Deluxe,” with a sold-out hometown show at the Fillmore New Orleans—a full-circle tribute to the record that helped define alternative rock in the 1990s with songs including “Good,” “In the Blood” and “Rosealia.”

Named one of Billboard’s “100 Greatest Alternative Artists of All Time”—and even the inspiration for a classic “Saturday Night Live” sketch—Better Than Ezra released its 10th studio album, “Super Magick,” in 2024. Featuring songs including “Live a Little” and “Grateful,” the album marked another chapter in the band’s enduring career. Better Than Ezra continues to headline tours and appear at major festivals, including Bourbon & Beyond and Oceans Calling in 2026, proving its music and live performances remain as vital as ever.

Vertical Horizon

For more than three decades, Vertical Horizon has remained committed to creating thoughtful, uncompromising music. Led by founder, songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Matt Scannell, the band continues to explore new creative territory while building on the melodic rock sound that first earned it a devoted following.

Formed as a duo in the early 1990s, Vertical Horizon independently released three albums—“There and Back Again,” “Running on Ice” and “Live Stages”—before signing with RCA Records. The band achieved its breakthrough in 1999 with the double-platinum album “Everything You Want.” Its title track topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Top 40 charts and became the most-played single of 2000. Additional hits included “You’re a God” and “Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning),” which later became a top 20 country hit for Gary Allan.

Following the 2003 album “Go,” Vertical Horizon stepped away from the traditional major-label model and embraced greater creative independence. Over the years, evolving lineups and influences have expanded the band’s sonic range without diminishing the distinctive songwriting at its core. With high-energy performances featuring longtime favorites and newer material, Vertical Horizon remains a vibrant and evolving force—one driven by artistic freedom, musical connection and the enduring appeal of a great song.
